Location of the Palace-
Dechencholing Palace is located on the west banks of the Thimphu River towards the northern end of the Thimphu Valley. It is situated at a distance of almost 4 kilometers from the Tashichho Dzong and 7 kilometers from the city center.
History of the Dechencholing Palace-
In the year 1952, Druk Gyalpo Jigme Wangchuck who was the second king of the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan died and as a result, his son Druk Gyalpo Jigme Dorji Wangchuck became king in 1953. And after his coronation, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck built Dechencholing Palace in the year 1953. His son Jigme Singye Wangchuck was born here in the year on 11th November in 1955.
Gayum Angay Phuntsho Choden Wangchuck, who was the mother of the Late Royal Grandmother said to have lived here for many years as a Buddhist nun. This palace is now used as the center of international delegations as the present king does not stay here. His current residence is at the Samteling Palace.
